In 2021, instrumental duo 40 Winks released Field Recordings. One of my most played albums of the year, it's one I was late to check out but grateful to have arrived. Blending samples with ambient and hip-hop and every genre in between, this feels like a tranquil version of The Avalanches or a more stoned version of Blockhead. It's beautiful, relaxing, surprising, jazzy, and dense.
