Leslie Marie is a singer/songwriter from Hyde Park, Chicago who has been on my radar ever since releasing her debut single "Bourbon". Via Rosa gave the song a shout-out and I've been following her work ever since. From her EP, Merci, to loose singles scattered throughout (listen to "Ruby"), it's been great seeing this young talent blossom. To keep things moving, she gives us the new single "Blue", along with a Q+A that you can read below.

What can you tell us about the song "Blue"?

'Blue' is a reflection of a few unfortunate experiences I've had with fellow artists during the start of my music career.

Is it a loose single or part of something larger?

It was a part of my original mix tape Merci, which I later sized down to an EP. So now it's just a loose single. I think it plays better on its own.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Doing more shows, and a possible new project by the end of the summer.

What are some studio essentials when creating?

I can't write without a dictionary on deck, I'm really adamant on making sure I know what I'm talking about before throwing big words into songs just because it "flows better". Also my song book, I get freaked out about writing on my phone because things can get deleted so easily.

Is it difficult to decide when you want to create with just a guitar/ukulele and when you want more fleshed out instrumentation?

It's not hard at all. Everything just kind of falls into place. Also with enough practice I can always learn how do either or while performing.

Outside of music, do you have any other notable hobbies/interests?

I am currently a theatre student in college, and I've been acting way longer than I've been singing. I'm also a beast at eyebrow dancing.

Do you have any final thoughts/words of wisdom/shout-outs?

Wealth don't equal health, health is your wealth! Shout-out to my big sis Via Rosa.
